About Stadttheater Langenthal
The Langenthal Municipal Theatre has been completely refurbished over the last one and half years. The elaborate renovation has cost around 15 million Swiss francs. The theatre will now be able to live up to its reputation as a representative cultural building in this small town in the Oberaargau in the future. The theatre will reopen to the public for the 2017-18 season with its 400 new comfortable theatre seats.
The fact that professional theatre is offered in Langenthal is thanks to someone from Zurich, namely the municipal architect Arnold Geiser, who died in 1909 and who as a citizen of Langenthal bequeathed a considerable amount to his home community, determining in his will that the assets should be used to build a concert and theatre hall after the old market hall was no longer adequate. In 1916 the theatre, built in the neo-baroque style, was opened.
